Cupcakes Couture goes Under the Sea!

We have been a part of all of little Tessa’s birthdays so far, so when we were asked to design an under the sea dessert bar for her fourth birthday we quickly accepted. Tessa’s amazingly talented mother, Christina, really went above and beyond for this “Princess Mermaid” party. Dolce Designs transformed the party room into a magical underwater oasis, with not one detail left unnoticed. All of the walls were covered in sea foam green and ocean blue fabrics, streamers, seaweeds and coral reefs, and blue flowers were arranged throughout. Sequence linens by La Tavola gave the room just enough sparkle for the little princess. All of the guests were eager to catch the party wave from the moment they received their gorgeous invitations made by Cherish Paperie.

The festivities were brought to life with a Bubble Mania show; a mermaid from Send in the Clowns, and aquatic treats fit for a mermaid princess.  The dessert bar featured seahorse cupcakes, starfish cookies, ocean wave cake pops, aqua French macaroons, and a cake so gorgeous the birthday girl was quoted saying, “Seriously, mommy, seriously…do you see my cake? I don’t want to eat it, I don’t want anyone to eat it!” Luckily, Tessa’s sweet tooth eventually got the best of her and everyone was able to enjoy the delicious cake.

For little Tessa, this party couldn’t have been more perfect. She had a permanent smile on her face from the second the first guest arrived until the very end when all that was left were crumbs, photographs from the amazing Desi Baytan, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Haute off the Press: A Modern Film Shoot

Everyone here at Cupcakes Couture is just loving this film inspired wedding shoot. We were so excited to see this shoot featured on Ruffled this week. The combination of vintage  cameras and film with modern and industrial touches came together seamlessly. The mix of old and new is symbolic of two people cherishing their old  memories as they leave their separate lives behind to start a whole new life together.  This was one of Stephanie’s favorite cakes that she has made. Stephanie’s inspiration for the black border on the cake was a classic roll of film and the silver lines were her artistic take on the hanging “chandelier” of light bulbs. The best part is that this inspiration can easily be incorporated into your big day or special event. Take a look at the pictures below to see if any of the details would be just right for you!

Haute off the Press: JLM Couture’s Grand Opening

We were beyond thrilled to be a part of the opening of JLM Couture‘s flagship salon in West Hollywood last month. This luxurious new bridal boutique couldn’t be more dazzling for its debut. The night was filled with live music, the sounds of laughter and lively chatter, stunning dresses, and our one-of-a-kind Cupcakes in a Jar. We created a gourmet treat for the event containing moist vanilla cake, decadent cream cheese frosting, sauteed spiced apples, and crunchy vanilla streusel layered in an adorable mason jar and tied with a miniature spoon for easy eating. Stephanie, our head pastry chef, and Angie, our assistant store manager, attended and had a wonderful time at the event. Throughout the evening they got to indulge in savory appetizers, sparkling champagne, and martinis.  For Stephanie, the highlight of the evening was meeting the amazing designer, Lazaro Perez, who was so friendly and unduly humble. They were also very excited to spend some time socializing with our good friends, Mindy Weiss, Nathaniel Neubauer from Contemporary Catering, Leila of Be Inspired PR, and the evenings amazing floral designers, Christina Whittle and Zaid Arriola of Dolce Designs Studio

Haute From the Kitchen: Last Week’s Elite Treats

April showers bring May flowers, but since it rarely rains in Southern California, we are bringing you your spring flowers early. This week, we’re sharing two very different takes on floral cakes. While the first is full of bright colors and perfectly suited for a bridal shower, the other makes the ideal accessory to a beach themed birthday bash.

One extremely popular trend this year is the ombre design. You have seen this color fading fashion everywhere from clothes, to hair color, and yes, cakes too! That, combined with the ruffle design is something we’ve been seeing a lot of lately and we have to admit, we love the outcome.

Alice in Wonderland, to our surprise, is another theme we have seen a lot of. Perhaps because it’s such a fun way to play and celebrate! Bright colors, fun characters, and whimsical fancy takes the cake on these delicious masterpieces.

Haute From the Kitchen: Georgina’s Baby Shower!

When Michele came to us to create a cake for her sister Georgina’s baby shower, we couldn’t be more excited for her! And then we found out that this baby shower was going to be decked out in pink to celebrate the birth of this little bundle of joy. What better way to welcome a baby girl that with a pink candy table, pink lemonade (spiking optional), and tons of food, fun, and laughter.

To add to the occasion, we were asked to create a present shaped cake, made of vanilla cake with strawberry frosting. And while it looks great on that pink table, we think it looks best in this expecting mommy’s arms. Welcome to the world little Micaela, we can’t wait to make you your first birthday cake!
