Haute from the Kitchen: Fun New Fall Treats!

The holiday season is almost upon us. October’s nearly halfway gone in the time it’d take to devour our new Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Couture, and before you know it, you’ll be browsing Vons for your Butterball turkey and making a not-so-subtle wishlist to “accidentally” leave out for your loved ones (included: those new Steve Madden black leather boots you’ve been oggling). Because we know you’ll be busy planning that perfect Thanksgiving party, we’ve baked up a few sweets to take dessert off of your hands.

Thanksgiving Pies: Our elegant version of the traditional favorite. Choose either our creamy housemade pumpkin pie topped with toasted pepitas, cinnamon, and a whipped cream rosette or our couture-style All-American apple pie topped with oatmeal streusel. And if you’re not convinced yet, order by November 1st and receive 15% off! All other orders must be placed by November 19th and picked up November 23rd.

A Six Box of Thanksgiving Cupcakes: For those wanting to put a twist on traditional, we’ll be selling six-boxes of scrumptious Thanksgiving-flavored cupcakes the week before and the week of Thanksgiving. We’ve got your favorites with these fun flavors: Pumpkin Pie, Pecan Pie, Caramel Apple, German Chocolate, Sea Salted Caramel, and 24 Karat Ginger.

Caramel Corn Pops: Our best sea-salted caramel popcorn delicately rolled onto a stick for clean, easy snacking.

Cinnamon Pepita Cream Puffs: Cinnamon cream topped with toasted pepita (pumpkin) seeds in a light puffed pastry.

Seasonal Dessert Shots: The same irresistible cake-frosting layered combo in a shot glass, now in these sweet seasonal flavors: Spiced Apple, Pumpkin, and Maple French Toast.

Mini Pies (Minimum order: four): Adorable single-sized versions of our bigger pies. Choose from Apple, Pumpkin, and Peach!

Tuesday Treats: Groom’s Cakes

You’ve spent months dreaming up the details of your perfect wedding. You’ve scoured all the right blogs, pasted Martha Stewart Weddings magazine clippings to your mirror, and you know exactly what you want from flowers to linens to cake to those sparkly silver Jimmy Choo’s that just so happened to bring out that glimmer in your dress–all while your fiance stood by and nodded in the most excellent display of chivalry since King Arthur. But what about him?

This snowboarder cake  is marble-flavored. We made it as special request for a wedding. Learn how to make here

Traditionally, brides used a groom’s cake as a sweet way of showing love for her man while simultaneously paying tribute to him on their wedding, since typically she grabs the center of attention on the big day. Dating back to the Victorian era in England, groom’s cakes made their way across the Atlantic to the United States, where they were particularly popular in the South. They are usually smaller than the wedding cake and made of dark chocolate, and are often soaked in liqueur.

These cakes we adore! We found them from the Knot’s WeddingChannel.com here

The appearance of groom’s cakes dissipated because they became viewed as an unnecessary expense, but they’ve recently made a comeback–and more stylishly than ever seen before. Now it’s trendy to has a groom’s cake that shows off the groom’s interests and hobbies, and it’s a great way for bakeries to exercise their creative cake-making muscles.

This stadium cake is from Carolina Cake Queen here. The engine cake is from Artisan Cake Company here

There’s no wrong way to serve a groom’s cake–it can be dished out at a rehearsal dinner, at the wedding (if no other desserts are being offered), or served in the traditional matter of being boxed up and given to guests as a gift for the next day.

We made this chocolate feather designed cake for a photo shoot, but it would make for an elegant alternative groom’s cake!
Legend has it, single women who sleep with a box of the groom’s cake under her pillow will dream of her future husband. We think it’s worth trying out :)

Haute from the Kitchen: Cupcakes Couture Staff Celebrates Cupcake Wars at the Shade Hotel

As you may have guessed, we’re just a tiny bit excited that our pastry chefs Stephanie and Natalie claimed redemption and stole the show on the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars last week. To watch the two ride the wave to victory, our staff hosted a friends and family viewing party at the Shade Hotel, whose fantastic staff prepared us tantalizing appetizers (everyone fought over their slow-roasted sliders) and bubbly for the show. We served bite-sized cupcakes in the winning flavors at the end, and had a fabulous time! We wanted to share these photos so you can see our staff behind the uniforms :)

Our all star chefs, all dolled up :)

Our family and friends, watching in suspense (Check out Natalie grinning in the background!)
