Tuesday Treats: Real Wedding at La Venta Inn, Palos Verdes

This cross-town rivalry couple fell in love over a deadly combination: s’mores and hockey. At an event at Union Cattle Ranch for the South Bay group at Deloitte & Touche, where both had just snagged full time jobs in 2006, Masha (a UCLA grad) ordered s’mores with friends and happened to have an extra. She noticed Dustin (a USC grad) eyeing it hungrily, and, having spotted him a year earlier at a broom ball game for Deloitte interns and thinking he was cute at the time, invited him to have it.

Dustin, in the midst of a boring conversation, quickly accepted this offer from, in his words, a “gorgeous girl.” In spite of attending rival universities, the two discovered a mutual love for hockey and the night ended with numbers exchanged. Dustin asked Maya to an LA Kings game next week, and the rest is history.

The two married at La Venta Inn  in Palos Verdes this July. “It has the view of South Bay which is where we fell in love–that’s the significance of it,” Masha said.

Masha designed the details for most of her wedding, we baked a colorful cupcake tower of their favorite flavors and Dave and Sandy of Dave Richards Photography captured these stunning images below!

Masha and Dustin decided on a Hawaiian-feel for their flowers, and the girls from Mulberry Row worked with Maya’s budget to put together these beautiful combinations!

Maya and her mom designed all of the menus, placecards and stationery themselves!

Maya and Dustin chose purple and white as their colors to represent their birthstones (hers is pearl and his is amethyst). They used green as an accent to make the deep purple pop!

Dustin and Masha chose their favorite flavor, red velvet, for their cake topper. They filled the rest of the cupcake tower with peanut butter and jelly for the kids, chocolate blackout cake with salted caramel ganache in the middle and espresso frosting,  and strawberry cheesecake. Masha chose macarons to as topper for the bottom layer after browsing one of our lookbooks!

Masha describes her most stunning moments of the wedding as “the look on Dustin’s face when he walked down the aisle,” a slideshow put together by Dustin’s brother and played outside against this landscape, a poem written and read in Russian by Masha’s grandmothers, and a re-write of Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” by Dustin’s brother.

“It was one of the funniest things,” Masha laughs. “It was one of my standout moments. It was a really, really amazing day.”

Tuesday Treats: Real Wedding by Mindy Weiss at the Beverly Wilshire

Forgive us for being blunt, but we just can’t help it–this wedding is GORGEOUS! A classic example of having your hard work pay off, we had the honor and pleasure of working with celebrity wedding planner Mindy Weiss to create this five tier, seventy pound wedding cake for Maya and Bryan. You can read about it on Mindy’s blog here, but we couldn’t help but snag some of her sneak peek photos to share with you! She will be featuring the rest of the wedding, captured by Yitzhak Dalal, on her home page soon. Enjoy!

It took  us four days to make this cake. We spent one day making the macarons to fit perfectly on the base, another day covering the cake in fondant, another day to add the stenciling, and the final day to finish the detail with Swarovski crystals!

The bride chose this design to mimic the one on her stationery. In order to re-create it, Stephanie had a rubber stamp molded precisely to the original image. She then carefully hand-stamped each section of fondant. The bride ordered real Swarovski crystals to complete the look!

One of our favorite shots Mindy captured from the night!

Haute from the Kitchen: Custom Cakes for Your Man!

He’s tall. He’s handsome. He plays in his favorite local sports league on Tuesdays and hosts poker night with the boys on Thursdays. He prefers a tall boy to your glass of red wine and he aspires to be the tougher version of Bear Grylls. And while he may have watched that chick flick with you last Friday, he’ll never admit it.

Let’s face it–your guy wouldn’t be caught dead eating a frilly cupcake if it were the last source of sugar in South Bay. But that doesn’t mean you can’t cater to his sweet tooth. Below, we’ve picked some of our favorite cake ideas for your man, sure to win his heart and his stomach.

To create this tasty chocolate  Newcastle cake, Stephanie used an edible image. She then cut two holes into the sheet cake and inserted two plastic cups to hold the real Newcastle bottles.

One of our staffers had this cake baked for her boyfriend, based on his favorite band! The flavor? Banana chocolate chip.

This Wii controller birthday cake is one of our classic favorites.

We can’t wait to hear more of your creative cake ideas for your man! Comment and let us know!

Private Malibu Seaside Bridal Shower, Featured in C Weddings!

The scene for this bridal shower is breathtaking. The intimate affair took place earlier this summer in a private Malibu estate and is featured in the current issue of C Weddings. Wearing an elegant but simple ivory dress, the bride-to-be glowed against the mansion’s  sea-spritzed decor adorning the high-ceilings, chandeliers, indoor fountain, and banquet room. Using the estate’s soft ivory and blush color scheme, Be Inspired PR added their amazing sense of style to pull together the shower’s finishing touches (read about it on InspiredByThis!). JL Designs worked their magic on the florals, Momental Designs put together the gorgeous stationery, Elizabeth Messina captured the photos, and we created a blush and gold seashell cake and sea-themed dessert table.

We just can’t get enough of her dress!

Stephanie created this gorgeous, two-tier ruffled custom cake with gold seashells and sugar flower just for the occasion! Mini cupcakes, strawberry shortcake bites,  and gourmet French macarons completed the themed dessert bar.

We have to say, this beautiful bridal shower is one of our favorites :) Congratulations to the soon to be Mrs.!

Gem Photo Styled Photo Shoot – Elopement a at a Little White Chapel

When it comes to promising “I Do,”  sometimes simplicity says it sweetest. That was the mantra for this storybook-setting styled shoot dreamed up and photographed by Gem Photo and designed by Melanie Bittick of Jesi Haack Design . Stephanie whipped up a whimsically classic three-tiered cake with navy zig-zags and gold bows to wrap up the evening. Featured on Green Wedding Shoes on Monday, this picturesque “elopement at a little white chapel” has us swooning.

We love the bride’s hairpiece from Ban.Do !

LOVE the glitter and heart motif throughout!

To create this look, Stephanie stenciled the zig zags on the cake and airbrushed with navy. The gold bows are made from fondant!

This last dance for two in the street makes an ending fit for a modern day fairytale–cue the collective “awwww.”
