Tuesday Treats: A Trip Down the Rabbit Hole

You don’t want to be late for this important date. Follow us down the rabbit hole as we experience the awe of wonderland for Sophia’s 6th birthday!

When the children arrived, they were given whimsical garb suitable for their trip down the rabbit hole.

There were plenty of party favors to take home with gift bags and personalized water bottles.

The yard was transformed into a magical place full of over-sized mushrooms, heart cutouts, and a plenty of playing cards sprinkling the lawn. If you listened closely you could hear the Queen say:

Who’s been painting my roses red? Who’s been painting my roses red/Who dares to taint / With vulgar paint / The royal flower bed? / For painting my roses red / Someone will lose his head!

And of course, the centerpiece of the day was the three tiered cake, spotted with colorful cascading flowers, and topped with a teapot straight from the pages of Wonderland.

Tuesday Treats: Creative Birthday Cakes

From the sea to the sand to the stands, our amazing team of pastry chefs have been baking up some tantalizingly creative cakes this month! This Tuesday’s treats feature a sweet birthday line-up: a Saints sheet cake with an autographed mini helmet, a fisherman’s cake with iced sugar to create the glasslike effect of stormy seas, a smoother sailing sailboat cake, a dragon cake who’s red medieval beast looks like he’s about to spew flames, a festive hot pink luau cake, a lion jungle cake, and a teddy bear cake so cute you’ll have to fight the urge to cuddle him.

Fashionable Friday: Behind the Scenes of Nicole Richie’s 30th Birthday Cake!

When Stephanie got the call from Mindy Weiss‘s team to put in an order for Nicole Richie’s birthday cake, she couldn’t wait. ”I was super excited – I’m a fan of hers!” Stephanie exclaims. “I love her style, she has this edgy, funkiness.” Her nerves came in as she and Sara faced the challenge of creating an all-white birthday cake for Richie’s star-studded affair without making it look like a wedding cake. To do this, the two worked to make the cake…

“Fun! [Nicole] has an eclectic style and wanted to reflect that. We wanted the cake to be fun, but still girly and chic,” Stephanie explains.

Inspired by Richie’s Bohemian style, Sara and Stephanie self-designed the cake’s intricate pattern, which they then hand-piped and hand-painted onto the three-tier red velvet. The lustre-dusted French macarons at the bottom were Richie’s request!

Richie threw the party at the lavish and classy Beverly Wilshire. Dolce Designs Studio worked their magic on the gorgeous white florals.

Can you believe the details in this cake? Stephanie and Sara spent three days creating it for the beautiful birthday girl: one to bake, one to coat in buttercream, and one on decoration. We’re still amazed at how different it looked before they hand-painted metallic gold lustre onto the design!

For the final touch, the girls added the gold-gilded chocolate plaque on top, which says “Happy Birthday Nicole!”

Finished! If Stephanie could say one thing to Nicole, it’d be : “I hope she enjoyed the cake and had a great birthday!”

Haute from the Kitchen: Doggy Dessert Bar

As dog lovers, this next first birthday party had us howling with delight. Hosted in a private room at the Tin Roof Bistro, we baked up a two-layer strawberry shortcake and salted tuxedo cake, chocolate and salted caramel French macarons, dog bone sugar cookies, and mini nutella banana, strawberry lemonade, and cookies and cream cupcakes for this pet lover’s party. Our pastry chefs hand-piped all of the adorable pawprints..definitely one of our favorite orders to date!

Fashionable Friday: My daughter Saylor’s Hot Pink NYC First Birthday Party!

I’m so excited to share this next blog post with you!

My baby girl Saylor Bleu is offically 1 years old!! Where does time go, I can’t believe it is already a year. Saylor was a bit spoiled for her first birthday and was given two birthday parties, one by my mom in NY where I am originally from and one by my husband and I here in Manhattan Beach (details to come later). I thought for her NY party it would be really fun to recreate the homemade dessert bars my family always made when I was growing up, as this was the true inspiration for wanting to open Cupcakes Couture. I asked each one of my aunts and cousins to make their specialty desserts and then coordinated all of the details with the AMAZING talents of Cherish Paperie to match the banners, tags, and all of the accessories so that the dessert and food bars got an instant facelift then what we were used to from traditions years ago!

Saylors middle name is Bleu and since a newborn my husband and I nicknamed her Bluebird(the bird came from her mouth always open from day one looking to eat like baby birds in their nest)…her whole nursery is decorated with pretty little birds so we thought the theme would be perfect and memorable

Dress My Cupcake’s new glitter wrappers matched the invitations and tags perfectly!

These sugar cookies were courtesy of my younger sister who is defintley going to be mad at me for putting them on here, lol

Nice job Aunt Joyce, thank you for decorating all of these cupcakes and for everything you did for this party!!

Cherish Paperie does incredible work, this banner was so perfect in my moms backyard, these accessories were the best way to make a backyard party feel super glamourous!

I am officially obsessed with bubbly bars, such a fun way to allow your guests to enjoy assorted beverages and we of course included fun childrens drinks in there too!
