As we come to the end of another Valentine’s day (is it really already mid-February??), we felt it was important to explore the hottest new wedding trends of 2012. After all, what is couture if it isn’t up to date? We’re excited to begin brainstorming new cakes to display in our store, but before we get to work, it’s important to do the proper research. After lots of research, and our own personal flare, we have created the perfect list of upcoming wedding trends. Take note, because you’re bound to see a lot of these in the next wedding season. Personally, we can’t wait!!
Perhaps it’s hit shows like Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire, with a hint of Pinterest that have had a large impact on wedding trends this year, but DIY and Vintage looks are going to be absolutely everywhere. Pearly broaches on invitations, aged metal, bronze, and ivory, are all making a large impression. It is not hard to find inspiration when it comes to the vintage look–in fact, it’s almost hard to avoid. 1920′s style veils and gorgeous aged bouquets filled with jewels and silloettes on pins are taking over wedding websites and search engines. In our opinion, the vintage look goes best with an outdoor themed wedding and also works great for those DIY decorators. Pair a little aged glam with an old wooden table in the middle of a grassy field and create a
Just a dab will do ya! Another major trend that is continuing into 2012, is bright bursts of colors! Stray away from the typical classic white, and have a little fun! White a dash of color in a wedding gown is more of a returning trend, we have also seen plenty of wedding dresses that forgo the traditional white all together! That’s right, a brightly colored sash isn’t as shocking as it used to be. Today, people are often option for solid colors. The most popular that we’ve seen is a light blue. While it may be shocking to watch the bride walk down the isle resembling say, Cinderella, it is an upcoming trend non-the-less, and it must be mentioned. Color can of course be integrated into the day in a variety of ways, and it can be as bold or subtle as one wishes. A bright bouquet is our favorite way to celebrate color, but you can also liven up your desserts, your invitations, and even your table linens! No matter how you chose to express yourself, the most important thing is that you truly represent yourself.
Sophisticated and feminin, lace has always been an elegant classic. However this year–thanks to London’s hottest trend setter, Kate Middleton–it has become all the rage for weddings. We’re not only seeing it on the brides dress, but also the linens, invitations, the hair pieces, and yes, even the cake! In order to avoid looking like a replicate of your grandmothers’ coffee table (we’re talking doilies), it’s important to make sure you don’t go lace overboard. This isn’t the 80′s after all, but it is a time where fashion is fun and risky and we say go for it! Hint: lace also goes extremely well with our aforementioned vintage look.
These are just a few of the upcoming trends that we can’t wait to get our hands on. We have a few more in mind but we have to keep a few tricks up our sleeves! We’ll be sure to share our gorgeous cake trends as we create them though, so be sure to check back regularly!
